From Our Family to Yours: Why We’re Passionate About Documenting Family Milestones in New Hampshire and Beyond
March 5, 2026
The limited photos we post and share with our families often seem perfect and effortless. Even just last year, we took some outdoor photos with a beautiful green landscape behind and lucked out with both of the kids smiling and looking at the camera.
Well… what the photo doesn’t show is that ten minutes prior, one of our kids had a meltdown, and the other was trying interested in just about anything else, and we were both wondering if we should just call the whole thing off.
As a husband-and-wife photography team with two kids of our own, we get it. We really get it. At D&S Photo, we know that “Family Photo Day” often feels like a high-stakes marathon. But we also know that when you look at that photo ten years from now, you won’t remember the tantrum. You’ll remember how small their hand felt in yours.
Why We Do What We Do
We started D&S Photo because we realized that time in the Northeast moves in seasons—and those seasons go by fast. One minute you’re navigating the newborn haze in a quiet Manchester studio session, and the next, you’re scouting the best spots in the White Mountains for senior portraits.
We aren’t just photographers; we are professional toddler-wranglers, joke-tellers, and “stray hair” fixers. We’ve learned that the best family milestones aren’t captured by forcing everyone to sit still and say “cheese.” They’re captured when we let your family be a family.
Embracing the Chaos (From Experience!)
Our two children have taught us more about photography than any manual ever could. They taught us:
Patience is a superpower: If a child needs five minutes to explore a trail in Franconia Notch before they’re ready to smile, we take those five minutes.
The “In-Between” is the Goal: Sometimes the best shot isn’t the one for the Christmas card; it’s the one of Mom laughing because the toddler just whispered something ridiculous.
Comfort Matters: Whether we’re in our controlled, cozy studio or out on the windy NH Seacoast, your family’s comfort is our priority. If you’re stressed, the camera sees it. Our job is to take that weight off your shoulders.
Over time, we even developed our own Guide to Your Next Children’s Photo Session to help you prepare, partially because we would’ve loved to have these tips ourselves beforehand.

Documenting Milestones Across the Northeast
While New Hampshire is our home base, our passion for storytelling takes us all over the Northeast. We believe every family has a “geographic soulmate” location.
For the Adventurers: We love the scale of the White Mountains. There’s something about a family standing against that vast landscape that reminds us how big the world is and how tight-knit a family can be.
For the Traditionalists: Our studio sessions offer a timeless, distraction-free environment. No wind, no mud, just your family’s connection.
For the Dreamers: The Lakes Region and the Seacoast offer a sense of play. Splashing in the water or walking the docks at sunset brings out a natural, relaxed energy that is impossible to fake.
Our Promise to Your Family
When you book a session with us, you’re inviting another family into your circle for an hour. We treat that invitation with the respect it deserves. We promise to find the light, handle the logistics, and navigate the “kid chaos” with a smile—because we’ve been there. It may seem crazy, but not only do we love it, we thrive in it.
We aren’t just taking pictures; we’re documenting the milestones that make up your life’s work. From our family to yours, we can’t wait to see what memories we can capture together.
